We all want glowy, healthy skin, but if you’re not careful, skincare products can be loaded with unwanted chemicals. (Not to mention the fact that maintaining a good skincare regimen can be expensive.) Using natural products that come straight from Mother Nature can be a great, cost-effective way to simplify and enhance your beauty routine. Here, we explore five ingredients that in addition to being delicious in cooking, are super efficacious when applied to your complexion.

Coconut Oil

Not only does coconut oil make a great vegan substitute in baking, but when it comes to skincare, the benefits are numerous: coconut oil can instantly soothe dry hands, hydrate while shaving and moisturize your entire body. Bonus: dab a bit on your cheekbones as a highlighter!

Honey

Honey has natural antibacterial properties, making it great for acne treatment and prevention. It’s also rich in antioxidants, which help prevent visible signs of aging, in addition to being extremely moisturizing and soothing. Use it as a mask for five minutes for an instant hydrated glow.

Eggs

You can use both egg whites and egg yolks to help detox and tone skin; egg whites are great for tightening pores, eliminating blackheads and combating excess oil. With the yolks, whip up a nourishing face mask with 1/4 of a ripe avocado and one teaspoon of yogurt (more on that later!).

Essential Oils

We use essential oils blended with fine fragrance in our artisanal handmade soaps, but did you know you can also use essential oils as your own natural perfume? Use either pure fragrances (like rose or verbena) or get creative and blend scents for your own bespoke scent.

Yogurt

Because of the probiotics and lactic acid naturally found in the live cultures, yogurt makes an amazing mask for reducing fine lines, dissolving dead skin, and tightening pores. Add a tablespoon of olive oil to three to four tablespoons of yogurt, and leave until dry.

Olive Oil

I love using olive oil to condition my eyelashes and remove makeup - zero tugging involved. Olive oil is packed with anti-aging antioxidants and hydrating squalene, making it wonderful for, skin, but your hair and nails, too!
